First Friday. You know the Deal.

Some special events are happening though. Mainly the "official" launch of Alex and Corey's site that you've heard me mention here and there. It's called "DoSomethingTonight" and it's pretty good. Most times the faces behind anything web or technology driven are NOT like this:

I don't know how they get anything done with it since they're always out partying but whatever man. It's the best resource that I've seen and totally unbiased. If you do any events and you haven't sent them the info go ahead and do that. Come by their launch party tonight too. They're really nice guys. They probably won't be sober tho. Just saying.

Later you can see the first ever MC battle at O Lounge at FLOW. Or see the portrait thing at Thirtyninehotel that I mentioned earlier this week. Or just stay at Next Door and check out Doc Martin. That's always a nice crowd.

Enjoy!

Portraits!

Ok. So you may or may not know that I have a bit of a thing for portraits. Portraits and trees. If I was any good at photography you can bet that I would be chasing all of you down to sit for a cw-style portrait. Look for my faves one day, but for now you can look forward to the new exhibit at Thirtyninehotel this Friday. I know, right. First Friday. A.k.a. When-Downtown-turns-into-ZOO day.

date: Friday, September 7
event: First Friday Opening Reception
time: 6pm-9pm & 9pm-2am
admission: FREE (21+ w/valid ID)
6pm-9pm, opening reception for Portraiture Revisited: thirtyninehotel's First Annual Juried Exhibition.
Artists: Mandell Andres, Dana Forsberg, Jaqueline Hegarty, Erika Johnson, Wendy Kawabata, April Lee, Mark Maresca, Lori Ohtani, Jessica Oshita, Ryan Kerns.
Juror: Gaye Chan, Artist and Chair, Department of Art and Art History at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
After the reception, stick around for DJ Harvey and Chittom. Global cult hero DJ Harvey joins Double Joy’s Mark Chittom for an evening of left-field classics, nu-disco, and wall-to-wall revelry.

Sounds SUPER exciting to me. I won't miss this for the world. TONIGHT you can actually head over there for some chill music and yummy fruit drinks. It's also Kaleidoscope so tonight is Around the World w/Cherry Blossom Cabaret, Black Square, Malcognitas, & Scrabbel (from SF!). Wait. Cherry Blossom?! I'll go around the world with YOU! HAWT.

Anything you can do SHE can do better...

Nadine Kam is blogging! I'm hyped. It's called Fashion Tribe but trust me, I'm sure there will be tid bits from all sorts of arts and nightlife stuff in addition to the fashion scene. I see her everywhere and she is definitely one of my faves. Bookmark that ish!

Also this week, it's going to be a pretty jam packed weekend you guys. Get ready. The big ones? Downtowne, GroundUP, Skyline, and Russell Tanoue's finale for that model search thingie. I'll give you more details soon. As for TONIGHT! Hedwig, Commando, & Lyle Matsuura are all playing live at Next Door and it's 18nup so all you college kids (welcome back!) make sure you check it out.

Next door to Next Door at Bar 35 is their usual B rated classic sci-fi, monster/horror, Kung Fu night. Have a drink!

So last night's moon! I didn't know you could see it all the way in Vegas. Rad.

...this time teaming up with Greenpeace. I love to love to sometimes be annoyed by you.

TONIGHTA! More live music.

[ps: who did the new fliers? ara? someone? very nice!]
I am sad to hear that Ctrl Alt Del isn't playing Kaleidoscope again until September 11th, but at least they are playing again. Make sure you don't miss that one. Tonight it's Hell Caminos, Linus, Jessy Atomic, and Megum Pie.
Just so you know-- this event is still 18 and up so make sure you enjoy that while you can.

Not like...

...next door like the place next to your place. Like, Next Door the spot at 43 N Hotel Street in the heart of Chinatown. It's made a huge impact in this little town since it first opened and a major impact in my little world. Just a quick nosing around and i found that a lot lot LOT of memories have already been created and archived since its opening in 2005. Some of the best underground hip hop acts I've ever seen and even some major ones like Blackaliscous and Kool Herc. Matt Costa TWICE. Local people that I can't get enough of like Paula Fuga and the delicious Makana. Stuff like Cinema Paradise. Skate video premieres. Make outs. Private parties. Public parties. Urban Pacific. Smart bar. Discussions. Acid Wash.... I mean DAMN. Hard to even believe it's just TWO years old. Well, we're obviously going to join in the celebration all through this weekend.

So ya, come join the celebration. Tonight is a special fashion show by Dan and there's stuff happening all weekend.

Thank you for existing. Serious.
Love, Christa

Stuff to do for Tuesday...

...and that totally is going to include looking at my photo blog update from the weekend. It's only on the 'space for now but hey, whatever works right? The 'real' site should be updated soon.

As far as life in the night goes, I say be different sometimes. Sure it's a small town and you can probably tell that I'm particular about sticking to what's good... even if good means pretty much Chinatown. Anna Bananas was totally where I got started when I first moved here. [and NO you can't see those blogs!]. Tonight is always up in the air since it's open tables but sometimes it's actually ridiculously fun. Let me know how it goes:

Ryan and Justin are still keeping it going at Thirtyninehotel with the jazz thing. There is also jazzy stuff at Indigo with Maria Remos. If you're into mellow-cruise and you want the good options... go to Chinatown, man. Then you can complete the evening with the Kaleidescope. THAT is a damn good party... and check out the flier they did. It's a coloring contest! No shit! The winner gets a t-shirt or something so hit up the admin closet not for multi colored highlighters and I'll see you there.

Friday Pie Day....

....what.

ok ok ok. Just want you to know that best possible option for you tonight is Anton Glamb at the Frequency party. This is at Thirtyninehotel tonight and here, in no particular order, are the reasons why I think you will enjoy it:
1. It's an Enterprise party. That means dancedancedancedance. It's super fun to dance sometimes.

2. It's at Thirtyninehotel. The last place you can 'technically' smoke. On that beautiful lanai.
3. Even if you don't particularly know or like Anton's music, it's a damn entertaining show. Trust me on this.

There ARE other options if you're just not feeling the downtown scene. I mean, Russ has a very successful going-on at Brew Moon for the barely legals. EnO is good for people who want to dress up. Same with the W. Also-- Grammy winner Little Louie Vega is at mynewfavoriteafterhours spot Lotus tonight. THAT ish is going til 6am too... Woo!

I'll be at thirtynine tho... where there's never a dress code or douchebag.

Happy Friday-Pie-Day!

Luuuuuucy I know your secret

Lucy is back. She's going to be at 80s tonight. So are the Nocturnal Sound Crew! I just 'happened' to be there one time for one of these and it blew me away. Most fun everrr.

I guess I have to say goodbye to Melissa and Stephanie now too. Even tho I don't want to. Maybe if Dan ever updates danceonpartyon you will get to meet them and see why I'm straight-woman-crushing. Either way. BYE GIRLS! Last night ruled.

Ok that's all.

The Week before the Weekend...

...is ready in photos for you to crawl through. Highlights? The strip tease goodness that is the Cherry Blossom Burlesque, Anton killing it at O lounge, niceness in Waikiki wtih Der including a teensy bit of the Louis Vuitton copycat white party, Ryan Laskey's spared-no-expense going away party at the presidential suite, first Friday's art walk in Chinatown AND the Enterprise dancedancedancedance party that was the most fun ever ever ever.

The pics are up. Look.

Something new at the same old place

So G-spot is having this massive pub crawl in Chinatown tonight.

Before that goes down, I heard from a little HAA birdie that there's new stuff in the contemporary room at the academy... and this only happens once a month:

OH! and since we're going in backwards order... go to the Moana Surfrider hotel today at 1pm for a meet and greet for Andy's new love! AW! Tessa! Congratulations on your new life. HERE!

OH! and one last thing... the Rainbow Film Festival starts today. The schedule is up so check it.

Happy Memorial Day weekend... I'll put up more ideas for you later.

Tempo Valley and Paula Fuga...

...are offering their amazing talents tonight for Lacy's Teach One fund raiser. Although it's not mentioned in any of the press releases, she really needs people to donate children's slippers as well as school supplies. Come down at 7pm tonight with any sort of supplies for the children of Kamaile Elementary and pay a modest $5 to share pupus and talk story.

OH! and stop the presses! Anton Glamb is back on island!! I totally had a sighting last night. After a 'sort of' graduation from Columbia he is here to save all of us from music monotony and will be opening for Mickey Avalon next Wednesday at O Lounge. He is also rumored to have another show at Indigo's. I will most definitely keep you posted on THAT.

Last note? Flash, Molly and Payne? You guys were sooooo vodka'd last night! Haw haw. Thanks for the bottle, Lacy. It was a damn good time.

Car for Bike. Anyone?

So anyone who wants to trade... I have a 2000 hybrid honda with an expired safety check/registration and a 64x2 dual processor pc that I'll hand over for a BIKE and a MAC. Please e-mail me.

Tuesdays are special here. You already know this I think. At the risk of repeating myself every Tuesday about Thirtyninehotel and Next Door I'll touch on something different.... Honolulu Magazine's Photo Contest.

It's the 3rd one and the entries are getting more and more pro but YOU DO have a shot! The prize? Oh. Publication in their magazine and cash UP TO $500. Not the greatest incentive for pros but it would certainly look nice on a beginner's rez.

Full rules and info here.

If you're looking for Tuesday event info check dosomethingtonight they have it on lock for now. AND if you're looking for scoops on last night's bowling adventures check kalima. Mine will be around someday. *yawn*
