I miss Manila.....

...and I'm not even counting lurking MM Yu by the dim of my cell phone while surrounded by tragically hip clubbers at Thirtyninehotel. This is a pretty epic show you guys. And it's RIGHT THERE where we've been mingling for the past three weeks. Well. I've been trying! It's already almost time for another first Friday so I am making it a goal this week to get up there for a pau hana fresh juice cocktail and a lurk of the stuff.
David Goldberg has a piece running today that has gotten me even more excited to see it in the natural light.
MANILA ENVELOPE curated by Jennifer Wofford [who uses UBER! i love that site] will be at thirtyninehotel til August 25th. Get there.

WHO made it there last night by the way? I had a Christa emergency and missed everything but my bed last night. Let me know how it went. Christine is amazing.

As 'Different Week' closes...

...there are a few things that I've learned. Mainly? A lot of things never change. It's nice to know there's options though. This is the best city I've ever lived in... and taking two steps to the right of my comfort zone has opened up even more beauty and richness. I'm surprised more people don't do it... but I can understand why too. I mean, we still wound up in our favorite spots as the evenings would wind down.

Some highlights:

first of all. i wore a hat. i never wear hats really. ok, it's not my hat, and it was only for a second. but ya. different. [ps: happy birthday kalima]

wine club at indigo is a very lively bunch.

i'm going to take lessons. i need them.

island hopping is good but don't take your phone.

people on kauai are very friendly. and fun.

and finally... don't mess with france. unless there is some sort of beer-chugging component. cause then you will beat france.

I gotta get my column uploaded... but the full blogs are ready!

Part TWO

We found out what was making everyone crazy...

..duh, Summer Solstice!
Why NOT blame the axis of the earth and its witchy ways for some of the stuff that's been happening around here. What now since we all are wearing clothes and driving cars we can duke it out with 5.9736×1024 [to the 24th power] pounds of spinning mass? Ok. Cool.

I should elaborate but just tell me if you've noticed an energy as of late. Good or bad-- just a bit more energy that you've experienced since December. The Winter energy is probably masked by the whirlwind of goodbad during the holidays and such. I'll tell you it was a conversation last night that many people jumped in on and agreed with immediately. Speaking of last night I am already done with the shots and they will be up today. Kalima was there too so don't worry if you couldn't make it down. If you WERE there tho... how was that ROOM! There was a lot of excitement and positive energy in there for sure. Shit man. I'll go ahead and say it was one of the better nights I've ever seen in that space.... and that's why I'm gonna work overtime to show you. Um. Later.

PS: I was born on the Winter Solstice. Does that have anything to do with anything?

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIEND!
What doing tonight? I'm getting back to my original fetish which includes a particular DJ from Japan on island right now. Straight from Rappongi the smooth groovy DJ Nori. Hello....

Also have some drinks waiting upstairs at Mad Dog Saloon. Ya, Mad Dog the owner of the former Doghouse. Ya the Mad Dog saloon across from the old Deja Vu. Have you SEEN that place since they opened? Woah.

In National News....

...it seems like ol Stevo and Danny are winding down their Laverne & Shirlee tour with a gig in New York. Now how on earth did I miss this one when I was in SF...esp since it was sponsored by Sidekick. WHA??

So ya. Tonight? Make it to Waikiki before sunset to sit in the lounge and drink SUPER cheap martinis and watch the sun go down. Shit is amazing. The view... well. Here:

Later since you're already in Waikiki hit up Lotus for this Brazilian bikini fashion show thing. I love Lotus. Just make sure you validate your parking and it's only $3. NOT $10 like what I friggin paid. Grrr.

AND! Don't forget, never forget, barely legals at O Lounge wtih Vertical Junkies... 80's night at Next Door... Makana at indigo... and stuff.
Happy Hump Day!

THURSDAY STUFF:

My Mos Def Moment

Friday.
What a great night. I almost didn't go to Mos Def because Zana backed out at the last minute and I was scrambling for company. Then I remembered how much better it is to cruise solo and just went down. The VIP was suuuuper empty but I saw KC's boy Coop cruising and some others. I made friends.
So here comes the opening act. COOP! and his boys. They tore shit up, can someone tell me their name please. I'll love you forever.

Anyway, here comes Mos Def. As in, coming straight for me while I'm standing by the bar upstairs. I HATE photographing celebrities, man. It makes me feel icky and not fabulous. I couldn't help it though. Unfortunately, the flash went off as he was done smiling at me and continued making his way to the stage. When I looked at my display I realized I was zoomed all the way in anyway. GAH!
The photo actually turned out kind of cute.

The rest of the shots from this night are here.
