Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2011

Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Show in Paris

As we saw last week (Thursday March 3rd) Miranda surprised us by walking in the Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Show in Paris just two months after giving birth to her beautiful baby boy, Flynn.

Walking for Balenciaga for the fourth consecutive season, Miranda wowed the audience as she strutted down the runway channeling Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection as a “futuristic chic woman who is fierce and strong but loves wearing florals.”

Head designer, Nicolas Ghesquiere is known for his designs being a challenge for the ready-to-wear market, but this collection we saw an exception. Its elegant hip-length, folded floral skirt took the prize for being so versatile and feminine. The textiles and fabrics used were inspired by reptiles, technology and Christobal Balenciaga.

Ghesquiere tagged his new print as being a multi-coloured dream landscape on white silk. For him, it was “like a hallucination, like when you are a child and everything seems bigger than it is”, as quoted in The Telegraph. The silhouette was based around a larger boxy top and a tapered lower body. The strapped-metallic heels and ankle-boots lengthened the look.

Balenciaga discovered a new way to wear familiar material. Semi-triangular hems, striped knits, knitted bomber jackets and draped tunics were the highlights of the show. Their experimental hemlines of below the knee are a new trend to watch for, as highlighted in New York, London and Milan fashion weeks.

Miranda wore a sleek black dress with fake-leather detailing matched with the infamous Balenciaga clutch featuring opulent metallic work.

The collection is for a confident, effortless and modern woman. It is everything that Miranda stands for.
